National Geographic Photo Camp – Smith Island

Last month, NGPC conducted it’s first ever all-female Photo Camp with 12 girls from the Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women. Four students from VisionWorkshops’ Crossing Borders program, girls from Iraq and Nepal, accompanied the group as team leaders for the younger girls, new to this type of photographic story-telling program. Their task was to document the disappearing islands of the Chesapeake Bay. With veteran Chesapeake-area photographer David Harp, and “digital guru” and photographer Jay Kinghorn at the helm, supported by our very own Kirsten Elstner, Piper Watson, and rockstar volunteers Erika Nortemann, and Karine Aigner, the camp was a wonderful success and an enriching experience not only for the students but for the people of Tylerton, Smith Island as well. The following is the multimedia presentation that the staff and students created for the community on the island, which was shown to a full house on the last day!
